How To Begin Your Walk With the Lord After You Have Been Born Again – PART 1
“……Yet you do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss………” – James 4:2-3
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it be given to him. But let him ask in faith with no doubting……..” – James 1:5-6
“Yes, if you will cry out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding, if you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures; then you will understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom, from His mouth comes knowledge and understanding” – Prov. 2:3-6
Here are a few prayer guidelines to help you begin.
1) Pray ROM. 12:1-2. Tell the Lord you are willing to dedicate and surrender your life to Him. That you are tired of living for yourself.
2) Pray 2 Cor. 7:10; ISA. 57:15; PSA. 51:17. Ask Him to break you and clothe with godly sorrow, a repentant heart and a humble spirit. This brings true repentance and genuine salvation from all forms of addictions. If you want to walk closely with the Lord, you must be willing to forfeit many habits. As you get committed to these tips, He will begin changing your desires from your usual habits to you desiring Him more every day.
3) Pray Matt. 5:6; Matt: 6:33. Ask the Lord to fill you up with a deep hunger
for His presence, His Kingdom and His righteousness.
4) Pray Zech. 12:10; Pray 132:4-5; PSA. 13:3. Ask the Lord to pour out on you
the Spirit of prayer. Curse the spirit of slumber (excessive sleep), so your body
can be responsive to the Holy Spirit's nudging to pray.
5) Pray Psa. 51:7, 10-12; Heb. 4:12; 2 Cor. 7:1. Ask the Holy Spirit to purge your heart and mind from every filthiness of thoughts, motives and intentions. For it is out of the abundance of the heart that the mouth speaks and the body acts. Every evil proceeds out of the heart. (Matt. 12:34-35)
6) Pray PSA. 119:18, 27, 34, 66, 73; Eph. 1:17-18; Col. 1:9-10; Phil. 3:10. Ask the Lord to open your spiritual eyes to understand His word and to know Him more as you study the Bible and listen to Holy-Ghost-inspired messages.
7) Pray John 14:21, 23-24. Ask the Lord for an encounter with His word and with His Holy Spirit. Ask Him to grant you the grace to wholly desire Him and to love Him with all your heart. Only a genuine encounter with the Lord can bring long-lasting convictions in your heart about any doctrine in God’s word. If you don’t diligently seek and find God for yourself, what you claim you believe will be tested and found wanting someday soon. Jer. 29:12-14; Matt: 22:37:38
8) Pay the price of
discipline and self-control to stay away from anything that does not edify you
and glorify God and instead spend more time with the Lord in worship, praise,
study of His word, meditation on His word and prayers. Realize that the Lord is
your source and sustenance, without Him, you are nothing and can do nothing
worthwhile and long-lasting – Col: 3:1-2; John 15:5
"Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me." - Rev. 3:20
