Our Foundational Weapon of Warfare– The Mystery Weapon in the Whole Armour of God

From Eph. 6:13-18, the weapons listed and clearly revealed are:

ü  Truth - as belt for the waist

ü  Righteousness - as breastplate (of integrity and of moral rectitude and right standing with God)

ü  The preparation (the firm-footed stability, the promptness, and the readiness produced by the good news) of the Gospel of peace - as shoes for the feet

ü  Faith - as Shield against the attack of the enemy

ü  Salvation - as helmet for the head

ü  The Word of God - as the Sword of the Spirit

ü  Frequent, fervent, effectual Prayer

ü  Being Watchful - keeping alert (through fasting and fellowship with the Lord)

The above weapons require a foundational weapon upon which they can be activated. What then is the foundational weapon that is able to provide covering for our spiritual back or all other uncovered areas of our spiritual ‘body’ (that is, our spirit man)?

Please bear in mind that the weapons of our warfare are not carnal (of the flesh) nor are they physical but are spiritual, mighty in God (2 Cor. 10:4-6). Therefore, this foundational or fundamental weapon CANNOT by a physical weapon, it must be a spiritual weapon, mighty in God.

WHAT THEN IS THIS MYSTERY WEAPON?

Eph. 6:13 tells us that the reason we are to be fully dressed with the whole armour of God at all times is so that we can resist the devil and still be found standing, not staggering. Our mystery weapon is part of the whole armour of God but this has not been clearly revealed in the above list even though it is embedded in it and found in so many other verses and stories in the Bible. The Lord expects us to search it out by His Spirit of wisdom and understanding, rightly dividing the word of truth.

It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings is to search it out” – Prov. 25:2.

“The secret of the Lord is with those who fear Him, and He will show them His covenant” – Psa. 25-14

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” – 2 Tim. 2:15

1 Pet. 5:9 tells us to resist the devil. But before that instruction, that Bible passage instructs us in 1 Pet. 5:5-9, ".......AND BE CLOTHED WITH HUMILITY, for God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. Be sober; be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith......."

James 4:6-7 instructs, "But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.” Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you."

The cloak, garment or mantle of Humility is our foundational weapon through which grace flows into all other weapons to make them effective. When all the weapons are fully activated or made effective by grace, the devil MUST flee.

Without humility before God, we cannot exercise authority over the devil using any of all the other weapons of warfare. Humility is our foundational weapon. It must be worn as a cloak or garment. In the spirit realm, a believer with humility can be literally seen by spirits (angels or demons) to be wearing a cloak or garment just like all the other weapons listed in Eph. 6:11-18 can also be seen as part of the believer’s armour.

Until you are submitted to God and ruled by His word, you cannot resist the devil and cause him to flee. The devil is only afraid of the one who is submitted to God and His word.

THE HUMBLE PERSON

The person who is clothed with humility is the one who trembles at the word of the Lord, obeys it and continually experiences brokenness before the Lord because He is filled with the fear of the Lord; he is the one who has a repentant heart and can easily be taught by the Lord; he receives the chastening of the Lord with joy and trust in the Lord (Prov. 3:11-12; Job. 5:17-27); he is responsive to the leading and guidance of the Holy Spirit (Rom. 8:14). God dwells with this humble one in the Holy Place.

For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, with him who has a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, And to revive the heart of the contrite ones.” – Isa. 57:15

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and a contrite heart—These, O God, You will not despise.” – Psa. 51:17

The grace of God is the power of the Holy Spirit which is supplied to the believer through humility and submission to God. The proud cannot receive this empowerment because the power is received as you boldly (because of the blood of Jesus) but humbly approach the Throne of grace to obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need (Heb. 4:16); after which you will be able to resist the devil; you being fully clothed with the whole armour of God.

The Lord deprives the proud of wisdom and understanding - Prov. 39:13-17 but leads and teaches the humble in the way he should go. He teaches the humble to war against the enemy.

Blessed be the Lord my Rock, Who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle” – Psa. 144:1

He teaches my hands to make war, So that my arms can bend a bow of bronze. You have also given me the shield of Your salvation; Your right hand has held me up, Your gentleness has made me great. You enlarged my path under me, so my feet did not slip. I have pursued my enemies and overtaken them; neither did I turn back again till they were destroyed. I have wounded them, so that they could not rise;
They have fallen under my feet. For You have armed me with strength for the battle; You have subdued under me those who rose up against me. You have also given me the necks of my enemies, so that I destroyed those who hated me. They cried out, but there was none to save; even to the Lord, but He did not answer them.
Then I beat them as fine as the dust before the wind; I cast them out like dirt in the streets.” – Psa. 18:34-42

Our Lord Jesus overcame death and the devil, only as He humbled Himself before the Lord God Almighty and the Lord exalted Him and gave Him a Name by which every knee must bow.

Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. – Phil. 2:5-11

YOU CAN ASK

Ask the Lord to cloth you with this garment and to teach you to walk humbly before Him. Ask Him to grant you the grace to experience brokenness before Him.

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him – James 1:5

Then I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within them, and take the stony heart out of their flesh, and give them a heart of flesh, that they may walk in My statutes and keep My judgments and do them; and they shall be My people, and I will be their God. – Ezek. 11:19-20

By humility and the fear of the LORD Are riches and honor and life – Prov. 22:4
