Are You Facing a Storm Even with Jesus in Your Boat?
"Now when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him. And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with waves. But He was asleep. Then His disciples came to Him saying, "Lord, save us! We are perishing!" But He said to them, Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?" Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. So the men marveled, saying, " Who can this be, that even the winds and sea obey Him?" Matt. 8:23-27
Sometimes, the occurrence of a storm or crisis does not indicate the absence of the hand of the Lord Jesus in your life or in that situation. In many cases, a storm could show up just because the Lord is present in that situation. "Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution,.....But you must CONTINUE in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you WISE for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus." -2 Tim. 3:12-15.
Lazarus got sick and died even though he and his family fellowshipped often with the Lord and were deeply loved by the Lord. John 11:5; 33-35. The Lord Jesus Himself was tempted and His faith tried just after a long fast and fellowship with His Father - Matt. 4:1-11. In fact the Bible tells us that it was the Holy Spirit Himself who led our Lord Jesus to the wilderness to be tempted by the devil - Matt. 4:1. This was the time of His examination. A promotion was awaiting Him if He passed the exam. Thankfully, He passed it. Glory be to the Lord!!!
Storms and trials could often-times be that your knowledge of the Lord and His word is being tested, your faith tried and your reactions observed and evaluated by the Lord Himself. This is why the Bible refers to storms, crisis, temptations and persecutions that come up against us as 'Trials', that is, your faith being tried and tested. Whenever your faith is being tried, be rest assured that your promotion to the next level is underway. James 1:2; 1 Pet. 1:6-8
Do you abandon projects, a marriage, an academic pursuit, a business, your ministry which you know the Lord led you to commence just because a storm or crisis showed up?
When in doubt or confused about the presence of a storm, simply humble yourself and seek the face of the Lord, cry out for discernment, wisdom and understanding to know what to do, how to do it and when to do it. Like the disciples in Matt. 8:23-27, cry out, 'Lord , save me' and wait on Him till He gives you a word for that situation. Once you receive that word, your strength will be renewed, you will mount up with wings like eagles.....ISA. 40:31. That word from God will become your evidence that you already have the victory as you meditate on it daily until YOU turn your situation around. Joshua 1:8; Prov. 2:3-5. Even our Lord Jesus received words from the Holy Ghost with which He overcame the wiles of the devil in Matt. 4:4,7,10
Hosea 14:2 says, 'Take words with you and return to the Lord and say to Him.....' Which words? His words which He gave to you as you waited on Him. Return to Him, put Him in rememberance with those same words, meditating and declaring them until you know exactly what to do to get out of that situation. ISA. 43:26
Once you receive the Lord's words, His peace will envelop your heart even though you don't yet see the physical manifestation of the solution you seek. Phil. 4:6-7. Then you will receive the Lord's wisdom, word of knowledge and understanding about what exactly you ought to do in that situation. Prov. 2:3-5
Be assured that the storm or crisis is not unto death (of your marriage, your business, your ministry, your God-ordained pursuit, etc), but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it - John 11:4. The storm should not break you, it should make you, it should bring forth that precious thing that the Lord has deposited inside you. Your faith can only be effective when you are pushed by trials to declare only what God has said concerning you - Philemon 1:6
"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will CALL UPON Me and go and PRAY to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will SEEK Me and FIND Me when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you, says the Lord, and I will bring you back from captivity..........." - Jer. 29:10-14.
